Adding someone as a WordPress admin gives them full access and management permissions, so they can perform tasks like updating plugins or changing settings to help you tick some things off your to-do list.

Here’s a super simple guide on how to add a WordPress admin.

Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard

Go to yoursite.com/wp-admin and log in to your WordPress dashboard.

In the left-hand menu, hover over Users and click Add New User.

You’ll be presented with a form. Fill out the following details:

  • Username: A unique name that your new WordPress admin will use to log in. This can’t be changed later, so choose wisely!
  • Email: The person whose email address you’re adding as a WordPress admin. For us, for example, [email protected].
  • First/Last Name: This is optional, but can be helpful for display purposes.
  • Website: This is also optional, and can be a personal or business URL.
  • Password: You can either create your own strong password here or let WordPress generate one for you.
  • Send User Notification: Tick this to automatically email the new WordPress admin a secure link to set their password. Alternatively, you can send them this information yourself using a secure tool such as Password Pusher.
  • Role: Select Administrator from the dropdown list.

Click the Add New User button at the bottom of the page to complete the process.

Voila! You’ve added a WordPress admin. Happy delegating.
